Graduate Teaching Assistantships

The University of Utah School of Music offers Graduate Teaching Assistantships in and for Percussion students wishing to pursue the Masters or Doctoral Degree in Music Performance or Music Education. Graduate Assistants in the program are given numerous opportunities for personal and professional development by working directly with the percussion faculty. Given applicants experience level, these may include:

  • Percussion Methods Course - Fall Semester
  • Utah Marching Drumline (arranging opportunities included)
  • Honors Youth Percussion Ensemble (HYPE) – Spring semester 
  • Coaching / Conducting Opportunities with the U Percussion Ensemble
  • Performance / Coaching Opportunities within Jazz Area
  • World Music Area / General Studies


The internationally acclaimed U of U Percussion Ensemble has won the Percussive Arts Society International Percussion Ensemble Contest on multiple occasions, and as also appeared at the Midwest International Band and Orchestra Clinic. The ensemble has commissioned works by composers such as David Gillingham, Tom Gauger, Anders Koppel and Christopher Deane.
